American Express launches limited-time 'Invite a Friend' offers: Earn up to 90,000 points before 21 July 2026

American Express has unveiled a series of boosted referral bonuses across ten cards, giving existing Cardmembers and their friends the chance to earn enhanced amounts Membership Rewards points, Avios, and cashback, but only until 21 July 2026.

If you've held an Amex within the past two years, this may render you ineligible for a welcome bonus on a new Amex card. You can use our Amex eligibility tool to check whether you are able to earn one of these sign up bonuses.

What can you do with Membership Rewards Points?

Membership Rewards points are among the most flexible rewards currencies available in the UK. Once earned, points can be:

• Converted to Gift Cards across travel, entertainment and lifestyle brands (90,000 points = £450)

• Transferred to airline and hotel partners, including British Airways Avios, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, and more

• Used directly on purchases charged to your Card, from online shopping to reducing your card balance

We'd always recommend transferring your points to an airline to get thousands of pounds of value back, for example, the same 90,000 points that are worth £450 in gift cards could buy you a business class trip to New Zealand, just like we did!

How to refer a friend with American Express

Existing Cardmembers can refer as many friends, family members or business partners as they wish. However, annual limits do apply to the total rewards that can be earned through referrals in any given year.

To refer a friend, log in to your American Express account online or through the app, head to membership, and you'll see the "Invite a friend" where you can copy your referral link to send on to someone else.

When your friend is approved for their new card, you'll receive your referral bonus. They will earn their sign-up bonus when they achieve the qualifying criteria.
