Virgin Atlantic's frequent flyer program, Flying Club, offers a range of membership levels designed to reward loyal travellers with exclusive benefits and privileges. As you progress through the tiers, you unlock a variety of perks that enhance your travel experience. Here's a comprehensive guide to understanding and maximizing your Virgin Atlantic Flying Club membership levels.

What Are Tier Points?
Tier Points are earned every time you fly with Virgin Atlantic or one of their partners. Unlike British Airways, you do earn Tier Points on redemption flights with Virgin Atlantic. Unlike Virgin Points, which are redeemed for rewards, Tier Points determine your membership level within the Executive Club. The higher your tier, the more exclusive the benefits you receive.
Flying Club has three main membership tiers: Red, Silver, and Gold. Each tier comes with its own set of benefits and requirements for earning and maintaining status.
Red
Entry Level: Automatically enrolled when you join Flying Club
Benefits: Earn Virgin Points on flights, access to exclusive offers, ability to spend points on flights, upgrades, and more
Silver
Tier Points Required: Earn 400 Tier Points within 12 months
30% bonus Virgin Points on Virgin Atlantic flights
Premium check-in
Priority waitlisting
Free seat selection within 7 days of departure
Exclusive partner offers
Gold
Tier Points Required: Earn 1,000 Tier Points within 12 months
60% bonus Virgin Points on Virgin Atlantic flights
Access to Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses and partner lounges
Upper Class check-in and priority security
Extra baggage allowance
Priority boarding and baggage handling
Complimentary seat selection at the time of booking
Complimentary companion ticket for annual renewal
Tier Points are essential for progressing through the Flying Club membership tiers. They are earned based on the class of travel and distance flown with Virgin Atlantic and its partners:
Economy: 25-50 Tier Points per segment
Premium: 50-100 Tier Points per segment
Upper Class: 100-200 Tier Points per segment
The amount of tier points earned would depend on the fare code, for instance in Economy a T fare code, associated with Economy Light fares would attract 25 Tier Points, whereas a V fare code, associated with Economy Delight fares would attract 50 Tier Points.
Flights with partner airlines such as Delta also contribute to your Tier Points balance. Booking flights with connections can earn you more Tier Points compared to direct flights, as Tier Points are accumulated per fight, not per journey. For instance a flight from London to Los Angeles via New York would earn more Tier Points than a direct flight.
Any Tier Points that you have accumulated have a 12 month life span, after 12 months those points would be wiped from to accumulative total. If you fail to earn enough Tier Points to maintain your tier, you would be downgraded to the next tier, called a soft landing, for instance if you were Gold, but failed to earn enough points to retain Gold then in your next membership year you would be downgraded to Silver.
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club’s tiered membership system is designed to reward loyal travellers with a host of exclusive benefits. By understanding how to earn and maximize Tier Points, you can progress through the levels and enjoy enhanced travel experiences. Whether you’re just starting as a Red member or aiming for the top-tier Gold status, each level brings added perks that make your journeys with Virgin Atlantic even more enjoyable.
