Amex Is Giving Away Up to 12,000 Bonus Points for Adding a Free Supplementary Card

If you missed this the first time round, you are forgiven. American Express has once again launched boosted supplementary card bonuses for Gold and Platinum holders, but you would not know it unless you went digging. We buried it inside our article on the new March 2026 sign-up bonuses, so it deserves its own moment in the spotlight.
This is one of the easiest piles of Membership Rewards points you will ever pick up. No spending target. No extra annual fee. Just add a card and collect.

What is a supplementary card?
A supplementary card is an additional card issued on your existing Amex account for someone else to use, typically a partner or family member. They get their own card with their name on it, but all their spending appears on your statement and counts towards your Membership Rewards balance. You remain fully responsible for all charges. It is essentially a way of giving a trusted person access to your account whilst keeping everything under one roof, one statement, one credit limit.
The first supplementary card on your account is completely free. After the first, depending on the card you hold depends on whether you can get anymore free supplementary cards.
What is the offer?
Until 30 April 2026, if you have never added a supplementary card to your Gold or Platinum Amex, you can earn a boosted bonus just for doing so:
Gold cardmembers earn 9,000 Membership Rewards points for adding their first supplementary card. That is triple the standard 3,000 point bonus.
Platinum cardmembers earn 12,000 Membership Rewards points for adding their first supplementary card. That is more than double the usual 5,000.

There is no minimum spend on the supplementary card to qualify. You add it, you get the points. That is it.
The bonus points will arrive in two instalments. For the Gold you will receive 3,000 then 6,000, and for the Platinum 5,000 points followed by an additional 7,000.

This stacks with the sign-up bonuses
If you're picking up one of these cards for the first time, the supplementary card bonus sits on top of the current sign-up offers, and if you applied via a referral link, the totals get properly ridiculous.
A new Platinum cardmember who used a referral link and adds a supplementary card could earn up to 112,000 Membership Rewards points, plus a £250 Travel Credit. On the Gold side, that is up to 54,000 points with a referral and supplementary card combined.
BUT, do not add a supplementary card during your initial card application. If you are signing up for a new Gold or Platinum, wait until your primary card arrives first, then add the supplementary card separately through the American Express supplementary card page.
Adding it during the application process will disqualify you from the bonus.
This caught people out the last time Amex ran this offer, and it will catch people out again. Wait for the card, then add the supplementary.
Is it worth it?
Obviously. It is free, there is no spending requirement, and the points land in your account without you having to do anything beyond filling in a short form. Even if the supplementary cardholder never touches the card, you still get the bonus.
If you already have a Gold or Platinum and have never added a supplementary card, there is genuinely no reason not to do this before 30 April.
