Avios Insurance now does car and travel insurance, and you can earn 20 Avios per £1 until 27 November
You can now collect Avios on car insurance, bought directly from Avios itself. Avios Insurance has launched its car cover, and until 27 November British Airways Club members in the UK can collect 20 Avios per £1 on a policy, up to 10,000 Avios. After that, the rate drops to 10 Avios per £1, capped at 5,000.
For a sense of scale, 10,000 Avios covers a one-way off-peak economy Reward Flight to Amsterdam, Berlin or Paris with British Airways (taxes not included).

What is Avios Insurance?
If the name is new to you, that’s because it’s only just been renamed. It used to be called Wanda by Avios, a travel insurance brand that launched in the UK in August 2025 and was rebranded as Avios Insurance in August 2026. It’s run by IAG Loyalty (the company behind Avios) together with insurance tech firm Open. Existing policyholders don’t need to do anything, as the rebrand didn’t change the insurer or the policy terms.
The big change is that it’s no longer only about travel. Car insurance is the first new product, and home insurance (buildings, contents or both) is pencilled in for early 2027. Everything is bought and managed on one site, insurance.avios.com, without being sent off to a third-party comparison page as has been the way if you were getting insurance via the Avios website in the past.

What does the Avios car insurance cover?
Cover comes as standard with accidental damage, windscreen protection, personal belongings and European driving for up to 90 days. You can add protected no claims discount, breakdown cover and legal protection on top.
How many Avios do you earn on car and travel insurance?
Avios earned | Maximum per policy
Car insurance (until 27 Nov) | 20 per £1 | 10,000 |
Car insurance (after 27 Nov) | 10 per £1 | 5,000 |
Travel insurance (single trip or annual) | 10 per £1 | 1,000 |
The car insurance offer is for British Airways Club members in the UK, and it excludes Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. For travel policies you need to link your BA Club account within 60 days of buying and keep the policy running for at least 14 days. Only the main policyholder collects, not everyone named on it.
What about Avios Insurance travel cover?
Travel insurance is still available as a single-trip or annual multi-trip policy, in three tiers. Travel policies are underwritten by Allianz, Covéa and Ageas, so this is proper insurance with Avios on top, and the Defaqto ratings suggest the cover isn’t being watered down to fund the points.
Basic | Standard | Premier
Emergency medical & repatriation | Up to £5,000,000 | Up to £10,000,000 | Up to £15,000,000 |
Trip cancellation | Up to £2,500 | Up to £5,000 | Up to £7,500 |
Avios Protect | Up to 75,000 | Up to 200,000 | Up to 500,000 |
Excess options | £50 / £100 / £150 | £50 / £100 / £150 | £50 / £100 / £150 |
Defaqto rating | 3 Star | 4 Star | 5 Star |
All tiers include 24/7 emergency assistance and cover for a range of pre-existing medical conditions, subject to medical screening. Optional extras are gadget cover (up to £2,000 per person per trip), a cruise pack and a winter sports pack. There’s a standard 14-day cooling-off period, and you can’t buy a policy once your trip has started.

What is Avios Protect?
Avios Protect can reinstate Avios you’ve spent through your BA Club account on flights, car hire, hotels or experiences booked via ba.com, if the trip is cancelled or cut short and the Avios aren’t returned another way. The caps are listed in the table above.
A word of caution from us: Avios are usually refunded when a booking is cancelled anyway, which is one of the nice things about them compared with cash. So check what Avios Protect covers beyond that before you pay extra for it.
Our verdict
We like that Avios has put its name to proper insurance products rather than just sending you to a referral link. The 20 Avios per £1 launch rate is the headline, and it’s worth a quote if your renewal falls before 27 November.
