British Airways has just boosted the sign-up bonus on its Premium Plus Card from 30,000 Avios to a much more generous 50,000 Avios. This card does not just offer you the chance to earn Avios, but also an all important Companion Voucher allowing you to book 2 for 1 trips when using Avios to book your flight. Apply before 24 February via, but do not apply via the American Express website. More on that below.

Fees & Requirements
Annual fee: £300
Representative APR: 137.8% variable
You must be 18+, a UK resident with a good credit history
You must not have held a BA personal Amex in the last 24 months to receive the bonus
Remember, you must pay these cards off in full every month or they will start to accrue that high rate of interest and you may miss out on any points earned. Pay off your balance in full every month, and you will be okay.
A Huge Welcome Bonus
50,000 Avios after spending £6,000 in your first three months
That’s 20,000 more Avios compared to the standard 30,000 Avios welcome bonus
For reference, an off-peak one way trip in Club Europe to Dubrovnik would be 22,000 Avios off peak. An off peak return trip in Economy to New York would be 55,000 Avios, meaning you're almost there with this sign-up bonus alone.
To find out how many Avios you need for that trip you're planning, why not use our Avios Calculator!
How Many Avios do I Earn on Normal Spending?
1.5 Avios per £1 on all spending
3 Avios per £1 when you book flights or holidays directly with British Airways

Solo travellers do not despair, the companion voucher give a 50% Avios discount if you travel solo
The companion voucher earned with the Premium Plus card can be used in any cabin, as opposed to the companion voucher earned with the free card which can only be used in Economy
In addition, you’ll find extra Club World seats opened up exclusively for companion voucher bookings
Other Perks
Global Assist for 24/7 emergency support overseas
Up to £250,000 travel accident cover on card-booked trips
Flight delay and baggage insurance (e.g., £200 for delays, £750 for 6-hour baggage delays) for trips paid for with this card
About That Sign Up Process...
At the top I mentioned that you should not apply via the American Express website. Let me explain.
Here is how the bonus appears if you were to apply via the British Airways website, which shows the welcome bonus of 50,000 Avios.

This is how the "offer" appears on the American Express website. Note the offer is only 30,000 Avios.

To confuse you more, this is how it looks like on when you use a referral link that has come from someone's American Express app. This shows a welcome bonus of 33,000 Avios, which is the standard referral amount for this card.

And just to muddy the waters more, here is the offer if you were to use a referral link that was generated from the Avios app. As you can see, this does offer the boosted welcome bonus of 50,000 Avios.

I find it incredibly frustrating that there are so many avenues to apply for this card, yet they result in so many different outcomes. I would assume many people would take the American Express website as gospel, and so may leave 20,000 Avios unclaimed. Their fault? Hardly.
If you do wish to help a friend out who already holds the British Airways Premium Plus card, then do make sure they refer you from a link generated in the Avios app, and not the Amex app.

Is This British Airways Premium Plus Bonus the One?
This card is the staple in many people's wallet with the good earning rate of 1.5 Avios per £1 spent and that all important Companion Voucher which can be used in all cabins. But those 20,000 extra Avios in the welcome bonus taking this all the way up to 50,000 Avios does make this an even more attractive proposition. I do just wish that this offer was more universally obtainable.
