ITA Airways is set to expand its UK presence with the launch of daily flights between Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and London Heathrow (LHR), beginning 29th March 2026. This new route marks a major step forward for the Italian flag carrier as it strengthens its European footprint and builds greater connectivity under the Lufthansa Group.

Who are ITA Airways?
ITA Airways (Italia Trasporto Aereo) is the national airline of Italy, founded in 2020 as the modern successor to Alitalia. From its main hub at Rome Fiumicino Airport, ITA operates a growing network of short, medium, and long-haul routes across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia.
Following Lufthansa Group’s majority acquisition, ITA Airways is now on track to join Star Alliance in 2026, offering passengers reciprocal loyalty benefits, and integrated service with partner airlines across the world.
Flight Schedule
Starting 29 March 2026, ITA Airways will operate two daily flights between Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and London Heathrow (LHR):
London Heathrow → Rome Fiumicino
AZ203 – Departs 10:30, arrives 14:10
AZ205 – Departs 16:30, arrives 20:10

Rome Fiumicino → London Heathrow
AZ202 – Departs 07:50, arrives 09:40
AZ204 – Departs 13:50, arrives 15:40
ITA Airways Switch from London City to Heathrow
ITA Airways currently operates to London City Airport, with that service ending on 28 March 2026 - the day before the Heathrow flights begin. This represents a shift from the convenient but smaller London City Airport to the larger Heathrow hub, designed to capture a broader mix of traffic from other Star Alliance partners at Heathrow, and better connections to ITA's long-haul network from Rome.

A Modern Fleet Of Airbus A321neo's And A Sleek Livery
As part of its modernisation plan, ITA Airways has begun welcoming the Airbus A321neo into its fleet, one of the most advanced and fuel-efficient narrow-body aircraft in the world, but ITA have also equipped it with a world class interior, not just your standard 3x3 Economy seat.

This aircraft flies to mid-haul destinations out of Rome to Dubai, Accra, Dakar, Riyadh, Jeddah, Cairo, and Tel Aviv. But, it does also make select trips across Europe when not on one of these routes, so keep an eye out, you may be lucky!
ITA Airways has also turned heads with its stunning new livery, which we are big fans of here at Points Well Made. It features a sleek metallic blue fuselage accented by the Italian tricolore on the tail, and embodies the Italian spirit of design and celebrating national pride.
Bottom Line
With twice-daily flights, the next-generation A321XLR, and a classy livery, ITA Airways’ expansion into London Heathrow marks a major milestone in its transformation.
