Qatar Airways' September Avios sale is live: 25% off 21 destinations, and here's how to make it work from the UK
Round two of Qatar Airways' monthly Avios sale has kicked off, and if you're not sure what I'm talking about, here is Helena's take on round one last month.
The short-ish version is that each month Qatar Airways knocks 25% off the Avios price for certain airports, and you get ten days to book. Because Avios move freely between British Airways Club and Privilege Club, this is relevant even if you've never been on a Qatar plane (it is nice, would recommend).
The important bit, and this is the reason to keep reading even if none of the cities below are where you want to go: the discount applies to your whole journey as long as it starts or ends in one of the listed cities. Start you trip in Bucharest, finish in Sydney, and the entire trip is 25% off, even though Sydney isn't on the list.
This round of destinations needs to be booked by 14 September for travel up to 31 October..

About those prices
Those are the prices to or from Doha, but hardly anyone's trip ends in Doha.
Qatar doesn't price reward flights leg by leg. It prices the whole journey from where you start to where you finish, on a zone to zone chart, with Doha as the connection in the middle. So Bucharest to Doha is one price, but Bucharest to Bali via Doha is a completely different price, worked out from Romania to Indonesia rather than from the two flights added together.
In practice, that makes the numbers above somewhat of a reference rather than what most of you will pay. Bucharest to Bali in business class is 150,000 Avios return off peak, which goes down to 112,500 with the discount. Nice to Bali in economy is 80,000 return, or 60,000 on sale. Neither of those appears in the table, but both get the 25% off, because the trip starts in a listed city.
Which brings me back to the UK. London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Dublin all sit in the same Qatar pricing zone, and Manila is on the business class list this month. So a return from the UK/Ireland to Manila in business is 160,000 Avios return off peak, but because the trip includes a listed city, it drops to 120,000 in the sale.
So either take a short easyJet flight, and start your journey from a listed airport, or end in a listed airport, and you'll get 25% for the entirety of your journey.

The small print and how to book
Flexi Avios seats, the extra inventory Qatar releases at double the normal rate, aren't included, and we have a guide which explains the difference.
Partner airline flights don't count either, only Qatar Airways' own planes.
The discount doesn't show on ba.com. Book a Qatar seat through British Airways and you'll pay full price, so you need to go through Privilege Club directly. That means linking your two accounts and moving Avios across with Move Avios on avios.com (Household Account balances can't be moved, only your personal one).
Privilege Club won't let you book for anyone other than yourself unless you've credited a paid flight, on any oneworld or partner airline, to your Qatar account.
