What an Amex gets you at this year's British Grand Prix: £15 back on merch, a new trackside lounge, and free race radios

The British Grand Prix is at Silverstone this weekend, 3 to 5 July. If you're going and you've got an American Express on you, the good news is that there's a bit more on offer than there was last year.

We covered Amex's British Grand Prix perks last year, and most of what was on offer has carried over, but there are two new things this year at Silverstone, and the merchandise offer been improved.

Here's what's actually on the table/track/tarmac.

Spend £75 on merch, get £15 back

Add the offer to your card in the Amex app, spend £75 or more on merchandise at an on-site store at Silverstone between 2 and 5 July, and £15 comes back as a statement credit. One or more transactions count towards the £75, it's valid once per card, and it's in-store only.

You have to save the offer to your card before you spend. So do it now, from the sofa, rather than remembering at the till.

There's now a trackside lounge on the Wellington Straight

New for this year. Amex cardmembers, plus one guest, can reserve a spot at the Amex Trackside Lounge and watch from a trackside viewing space on the Wellington Straight. Eligible cardmembers will also get a priority queue into it.

Two things to know. Reservations are limited, and entry is valid for your reservation time only. It's a timed slot to catch some of the action from a decent spot, not somewhere to plant yourself for the afternoon.

Free race radios, now with F1 Academy commentary too

The race radios are back. Pick one up from the Amex kiosks dotted around the circuit and you get live commentary to follow along with, which makes a real difference when half the action is happening on the other side of the track (this is why I love Indycar racing, ovals baby!). This year the commentary covers F1 Academy as well as the F1 sessions.

The published pickup window is 8am to 10am each day, one per person per day, while supplies last.

Skip the main queue with priority lanes

Last year these were called the Amex Fast Lanes. Same idea, new name: Cardmember Priority Lanes. Show your card in the F1 Fanzone and you (plus one guest) skip the main queue.

The Racing Club is the family bit

The Amex Racing Club is open to all fans, not just cardmembers. Mini games, track accessories you can personalise, photo ops, that sort of thing. Cardmembers also get a pit stop for race day essentials and access to a Recovery Room to cool down away from the crowds.

If you're bringing kids, or you've got time to fill between sessions, this is where that time goes. If you're there purely for the racing, you can walk past it.

Free phone chargers, if you leave a deposit

Also new this year. Amex charging stations around the circuit will lend cardmembers a portable phone charger to keep you going through the day. There's a deposit, and it's while supplies last.

Lastly, which cards count?

All Amex cards other than prepaid cards are eligible.

It's too late to apply now, but if you're wondering which Amex cards you are eligible for, even if you've held one before, then you can use our handy free tool to help you out.
