You Can Now Earn Avios on Uber Eats — and Here's a Reminder How To Earn Them on Uber Rides Too

You may have already known that you can earn Avios with Avios, but did you know that didn't include Uber Eats? Worry no more, Uber and Avios have expanded their partnership this week to include Uber Eats. If you're already linked your Avios and Uber accounts then you will automatically benefit from this improved partnership automatically, but here's what's new, what you could already do, and how to link your accounts.

The new bit: Uber Eats

1 Avios per £1 on Uber Eats orders over £25 (excluding fees, taxes and delivery). Below £25, you earn nothing.

The threshold is the catch. A solo midweek curry probably won't hit it, but a Friday takeaway for two usually will. If you're hovering around £22 or £23 I wouldn't recommend spending a two or three more quid to get it over the line as the extra cost outweighs the value of the Avios you'll receive.

Everything else on Uber that earns Avios

Rides earn at the same rate: 1 Avios per £1 of qualifying spend, no minimum. Only the fare earns Avios, tips etc do not.

If you're like me, you search for your trip, immediately look at UberX (aka the cheapest option) and ignore the rest, but there are other options, including:

  • UberX, UberXL, Comfort, Exec, Lux

  • Uber Assist and Access

  • Uber Reserve, Pet, Green

  • Uber Boat (Thames Clipper)

  • Lime e-bikes and scooters

  • Local Cabs (booked via the app, not just hailed off the street)

  • Coach (National Express, Megabus etc.)

  • Trains, including Eurostar

So a train from London to Manchester booked through the Uber app earns Avios. A Eurostar to Paris earns Avios. A Lime bike for ten minutes earns Avios, and so on.

To give credit where its due, it's a much broader partnership than you might realise.

One slight catch is that only UK and Northern Ireland journeys. Ubers abroad don't earn you Avios.

Linking your accounts

You only need to do this once, and it'll then apply across rides and Uber Eats automatically:

  1. Go to Account in the bottom right

  2. Find Settings

  3. Scroll to the bottom to find British Airways Club

  4. Tap Link to start collecting Avios

  5. Log in with your BA Club details

Avios land in your account within 24 hours of a completed ride or order. Retrospective claims aren't allowed, so link it now as it'll be ready for your next trip.

Is it worth doing?

At 1 Avios per £1, this isn't going to get you on your trip singlehandedly, but it's entirely passive once linked. You were going to take the Uber. You were going to order the takeaway. You were going to book the train. The only question is whether those Avios end up in your account.

Thirty seconds of setup. Link it and forget it.
