Avios doubles the value of Pizza Express vouchers until 31 August, decent school holiday option!

We bring you the sexy first class cabins, but also the practical value. Well, this definitely falls under the practical value banner.

Avios lets you turn your points into Pizza Express vouchers, normally at a rate of 1,000 Avios for £5, which is not good value. But until 31 August it's double, so 1,000 Avios gets you £10, and you can order up to £250 worth in total per day, if you're feeling hungry.

That's 1p per Avios, which is the number we use for a fairly priced redemption for our BA Avios Value tool. It's also twice what those Avios are worth if you send them to Nectar instead as 400 Avios becomes 400 Nectar points, which is worth £2 in Sainsbury's (find our guide to Nectar points here). So 1,000 Avios is £5 of oven pizza, or £10 of fresh pizza this month.

I've got a couple of use cases for this offer. If you're looking for a cheap way to treat your kids/grandkids this summer, then you could do a lot worse than this offer. Yes, I'd rather you keep your Avios for flights, but if you don't see your balance being used for anything bigger for a while, then you have time to restore your balance. The other, if you know anyone who has a small balance of Avios from that random BA flight they took, then this could be an easy way to get them to take you out to dinner for free. Don't say I'm not full of good ideas!

I'd recommend taking advantage of this offer in August alone. As the email to us from Avios states "For the remainder of August, PizzaExpress Avios digital vouchers can also now be used alongside existing restaurant offers". This would imply that from September you cannot use the vouchers in conjunction with any other offers, meaning you will be paying full price for your meal, and could be getting worse value for your meal overall, albeit with an Avios voucher.

Needless to say there are a few caveats...

• It won't work on online orders, gift vouchers, merch, or pizza parties.

• No change is given, so if your voucher is worth more than the bill you lose the difference. Also, a voucher cannot be used multiple times. So if you think you'll spend around £40, get £30 worth of vouchers, and pay cash on top so you don't lose any voucher value.

• Vouchers last six months, so any voucher ordered before 31 August is good until the end of February.

• The Pheasantry (Chelsea)

• Brixton

• Finsbury Park

• Earl’s Court

• Any motorway services or airport restaurant

• Pizza Express supermarket pod locations
