If you're ever in Budapest Airport and fancy a bit of peace and quiet in a lounge, you're spoilt with six different choices. Today I'm going to be doing a review of the Skycourt Lounge at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport.
Should you spend your time here, or avoid?

I visited the Skycourt Lounge back in June on my "six flights, 72 hours, all using points" challenge, with the aim to prove how easy and flexible travelling on points can be. This visit was before my second flight, aboard Air France on their A320 in Business Class, taking me from Budapest to Athens, via Paris CDG, all paid for using my Virgin Atlantic Points. You can find the review of that flight here.
The Skycourt Lounge can be found on the mezzanine level of the Schengen zone part of the terminal. Basically, before passport control that passengers to Britain, America, and China have to go through.

First impressions, busy. If you take a look at the photo below, you'll see the huge list of airlines, and lounge access programmes that this lounge caters for. I gained access to the Skycourt lounge on my Air France Business Class ticket, but I could have accessed the lounge using my Priority Pass thanks to my American Express Platinum card.

There are two main seating areas in the Skycourt Lounge, neither of which benefit from much natural light. The "main" seating area does have windows, but these are so heavily frosted that they offer no real lighting benefit. I arrived at 10am, and as you can see, both areas of seating are extremely busy, with lots of unclean plates strewn across the tables.
Self-serve food and drink was available, with food either in a fridge or pre-packaged. None of this was particularly good or high quality, so my recommendation would be to have a hearty meal beforehand, or save your appetite for the plane if your ticket includes food. Drinks offered a better proposition, with a self serve coffee machine, a choice of juices and sodas from fountains, Heineken as the beer of choice, and Hungarian sparkling wine was available in the fridges.
There is also a business station with a pair of iMac's, but this space is situated at the back of the main seating area. Hardly a quiet place to get some work done. Hope you didn't want to sit down. As you can see, the chairs have been commandeered by someone else.

Would I recommend the Skycourt Lounge?
Yes, and no. If you already have access to this lounge with your ticket, then its fine. Nothing more than that.
But if you have access thanks to a Priority Pass, Dragonpass, or are paying cash, then no. I ended up leaving even though access was included with my Air France Business Class ticket to the Platinum Lounge, which in my opinion, is a far superior place to spend your time. Review on that to come.
