Earn Avios on Theatre Tickets with TodayTix (with a cheeky 500 Avios bonus) – But Is It Worth It?

British Airways Club has launched a new partnership this week with TodayTix, allowing members to earn Avios on theatre and live entertainment bookings.

On the surface, this looks like a win for Avios collectors who enjoy a night at the theatre, especially while the 500 Avios introductory bonus is still available. Dig a little deeper, however, and the earning structure is less generous (and less clear) than it first appears.

Here’s how the TodayTix Avios partnership works, how many Avios you can earn, and whether it’s actually the best way to collect Avios on theatre tickets.

Earn 500 Bonus Avios Just for Linking Your Accounts: Theatre Nights Just Got Rewarding

How To Earn Avios on Theatre Tickets with TodayTix

To earn Avios through TodayTix, you’ll first need to link your TodayTix and British Airways Club accounts.

Log in to TodayTix, go to Account and Settings, select Partner Rewards, and choose Avios. Once your accounts are connected, you can book tickets as normal through the TodayTix app or website.

After you’ve attended the show, your Avios should be credited to your British Airways Club account, usually the day after the performance. You’ll also continue to earn TodayTix Rewards alongside Avios.

Importantly, Avios are only awarded after you attend the show, not when you book.

How Many Avios Can You Earn?

This is where things start to get a little confusing.

Introductory Bonus

While the launch offer is live, you can earn:

  • 500 bonus Avios after attending your first eligible TodayTix show

  • 1 Avios per £1 spent on the ticket purchase

The bonus Avios are only credited once you’ve attended the performance, not at checkout.

Standard Earning Rates (After 9 February)

Once the promotional bonus ends, the ongoing earning structure depends on your booking history with TodayTix:

  • 2 Avios per £1 spent if you haven’t made a qualifying TodayTix purchase in the last 12 months

  • 1 Avios per £1 spent for repeat qualifying purchases

This means two people buying the same ticket could earn different amounts of Avios, and there’s no clear indicator at checkout showing which rate applies to you.

While this technically rewards new customers, it also makes the partnership harder to evaluate in advance, particularly if you’re trying to maximise Avios on everyday spending.

Are There Better Ways to Earn Avios on Theatre Tickets?

Yes — and this is where TodayTix starts to look less compelling.

Via the Avios website, British Airways Club members can earn higher Avios rates with other theatre ticket providers, including:

  • Theatre Tickets Direct: 3 Avios per £1 spent

  • ATG Tickets: 3 Avios per £1 spent

In other words, you could earn up to three times more Avios per pound compared to TodayTix’s standard earning rate, without worrying about whether you’re classed as a new or repeat customer.

That doesn’t make TodayTix a bad option, but it does mean it’s rarely the best one if Avios earning is your priority.

Which Tickets Are Eligible?

Not all tickets qualify for Avios earning, and this is another area where it pays to read the small print.

You can earn Avios when:

  • You book directly through TodayTix

  • Avios messaging is clearly displayed on the show, ticket type or promotion

However, several popular ticket types are usually excluded, including:

  • Rush tickets

  • Lottery tickets

  • Selected special offers and promotions

  • Bookings made in unsupported currencies or markets

Given that Rush and Lottery tickets are a core part of TodayTix’s appeal, this limits how useful the partnership will be for frequent users.

Final Curtain Call

It's a tale of two halves. We like the 500 bonus Avios.

What we like less is that the Avios earning structure isn’t especially intuitive. With different rates for new versus repeat customers, and exclusions on popular ticket types, it’s not quite as simple as “book a show, earn Avios”.

Add in the fact that you can earn higher Avios rates elsewhere via the Avios website, and this becomes a partnership that’s useful, but not essential, for most points collectors.

It’s not a standing ovation, but it’s a perfectly respectable encore. Just make sure you compare your options before you book.
