Virgin Trains Ticketing is running two offers until 19th April that are worth knowing about if you collect Virgin Points and travel by train. But before we get into it I need to clear something up. Virgin Trains Ticketing works with any operator across the UK. It's a common misconception that the booking system is only for Virgin Trains (even though Virgin Trains hasn't been a thing since 2019), but I use it where I live for South West Trains all the time.

If you haven't used it before, you'll need to download the app, available here for iOS and Android. Once you're in, link your Virgin Red account and you're set.
Double Virgin Points on all train tickets
The standard earn rate through Virgin Trains Ticketing is 3 Virgin Points per £1, with no booking fees. Until 19th April, that doubles to 6 per £1 on all ticket purchases. The double points apply to the cash element of your booking only, so if you're part-paying with points, only the cash portion earns at the promotional rate.
If you wanted to spend your Virgin Points on train tickets you'll get 0.5p per point, which is not great value compared to using them for flights (an Upper Class redemption can easily return at least 3p of value back per points). I only use Virgin Trains Ticketing to collect Virgin Points instead of spending them, as its essentially free points back for something I used to do on Trainline, and got nothing back in return!
2,000 bonus points on railcards
On top of that, if you buy or renew a Railcard through Virgin Trains Ticketing by 19th April, you'll pick up 2,000 bonus Virgin Points on top of the standard rate of 3 Virgin Points per £1 spent.
The bonus is one per customer, points should appear within 14 days. One quirk to note, you need to be at least 18 years of age to become a member of Virgin Red. This means a 16-17 Saver Railcard is not an eligible Railcard under the Promotion unless you are 18 or over and purchasing that railcard on behalf of someone who is 16 or 17.
