Earning Virgin Points on Train Travel!

One of my favourite ways to earn points is by going about my normal daily life, and picking up points in rather innocuous, inane ways!

For years I've been buying my train tickets like the rest of you, either at the station or most likely, on The Trainline app, just because its really convenient.

But how about instead of using The Trainline, there was another app that gave you 3 points per 1 pound spent? That app, Virgin Trains Ticketing.

After downloading the app from your respective app store, simply create an account, and then link it to your Virgin Flying Club account.

Once linked, you will be able to see your Virgin Points balance on the homepage of the app thus giving a nice easy way to keep on top of your balance.

Simply, go through the booking process as you would for any other journey!

As an example, I searched for a single from London to Edinburgh, finding an advance single fare for £90.90.

You can see at the bottom that this earns 273 points, a whopping 3 points per 1 pound spent! Not a bad rate of return!

You can also use you Virgin Points to pay for train travel on the app, but I wouldn't recommend this as you will be using 2 points per 1 pence spent. I would usually target a redemption rate of 1 point per 1 pence spent, so this would represent a 50% reduction in that target.
