To celebrate the launch of 15 new routes, Etihad have launched a new competition, be the first person to fly to/from each of their 15 new destinations by flying Etihad, and they will win 5,000,000 Etihad Guest Miles.

Etihad's Residence could be yours

For some context, that's enough for around:

  • 500 Economy flights

  • 70 Business Class flights

  • 40 First Class flights

And it's not just rewarding the first person to complete this challenge, in total there are three prizes on offer:

  • 1st Prize: 5,000,000 Etihad Guest Miles

  • 2nd Prize: 3,000,000 Etihad Guest Miles

  • 3rd Prize: 1,000,000 Etihad Guest Miles

For context, a points redemption flight from Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow would be 30,000 points in Economy, 70,000 in Business, and 120,000 in First. So for your 5,000,000 Etihad Guest Miles you could do 20 round trips between Abu Dhabi and London in First. If you were to do this paying with cash, this round trip is roughly £6,000.

Where do you have to fly?

The 15 new destinations for Etihad are:

  • Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

  • Algiers, Algeria

  • Atlanta, USA

  • Chiang Mai, Thailand

  • Hanoi, Vietnam

  • Hong Kong

  • Krabi, Thailand

  • Medan, Indonesia

  • Peshawar, Pakistan

  • Prague, Czechia

  • Phnom Penh, Cambodia

  • Taipei, Taiwan

  • Tunis, Tunisia

  • Sochi, Russia

  • Warsaw, Poland

Any Rules?

There are of course a few rules to this competition. Entrants must:

"A. Register as an Etihad Guest member (if not already an existing member), activate their membership account and enrol into the competition.

B. Ensure to add their Etihad Guest membership number to all the flights booked as part of the competition and to be eligible for the competition;

C. Fly to or from all the specified 15 destinations in the shortest cumulative time.

D. The Entrants who completed above (A), (B), (C) and can show they held the longest enrolment into the competition from the time competition commences (goes live) on 26 May 2025."

There is a cut off to this competition of 25th May 2026, and if no one has been able to go to all 15, then Etihad will work backwards rewarding the person who has travelled to the most.

Heard of something like this before?

Etihad have clearly taken some inspiration from SAS for this competition. SAS were recently purchased by the Air France/KLM, and as part of their integration into the Air France/KLM family, SAS needed to change airline alliance from Star Alliance, to SkyTeam. In celebration of this move, SAS ran a challenge rewarding members able to fly on multiple different SkyTeam airlines.

  • If you flew five different SkyTeam airlines, you'd earn 10,000 SAS EuroBonus bonus points

  • If you flew 10 different SkyTeam airlines, you'd earn 100,000 SAS EuroBonus bonus points

  • If you flew 15 different SkyTeam airlines, you'd earn 1,000,000 SAS EuroBonus bonus points

This challenge ran between 8th October and 31st December 2024, so its too late if you're just hearing about this for the first time.

If I've got enough time, I'll try work out the approximate cost of the Etihad competition, but if you work it out before me, let us know, we'll be glad to share your costings!
