American Express has introduced a limited-time promotion offering substantially increased point bonuses for eligible cardholders when they add their first supplementary card, and the best part, these bonuses can double up with the increased sign up bonuses that we wrote about the other day!

What is a Supplementary Card?

A supplementary card is an additional card issued on your existing account for use by someone else, typically a family member or partner. The supplementary cardholder receives their own card with their name on it, but all spending appears on your statement and you remain fully responsible for all charges made on both cards. It's essentially a way of giving trusted individuals access to your account whilst maintaining a single billing arrangement and credit limit across all cards.

The first supplementary card carries no annual fee, making this promotion accessible to all new cardholders, for no additional cost. And, there is no minimum spending requirement on the supplementary cards to qualify for these bonuses.

What is the Full Offer?

The promotion is available to holders of the American Express Gold Card or The Platinum Card who have never previously added a supplementary cardholder to their account. The offer runs until 31st October.

Under this promotion:

• Gold cardholders receive 9,000 Membership Rewards points (an increase from the standard 3,000 points)

• Platinum cardholders receive 12,000 Membership Rewards points (an increase from the standard 5,000 points)

Doubling Up with the Welcome Offers

This supplementary card promotion operates concurrently with American Express's current welcome bonuses:

• 40,000 Membership Rewards points for new Gold card applications

• 80,000 Membership Rewards points for new Platinum card applications

Cardholders can combine both offers, potentially earning 49,000 points for the Gold, or 92,000 points for the Platinum card.

Application Process
