This September: 20% transfer bonus from HSBC to BA Club Avios

The timing of this couldn't be more perfect. You've been messaging us about HSBC for the last few weeks and finally we have some good news.

From 1 September to 30 September 2026, HSBC Premier cardholders can convert their HSBC reward points to British Airways Club Avios and get 20% extra Avios on top. That's a nice little uplift if you were already planning a transfer, not quite as nice as their 25% bonus they ran in February, but still pretty decent.

How do you earn HSBC reward points?

Simply put, there are two HSBC cards that earn reward points. To get either of them you need to have a HSBC Premier current account. The Premier Credit Card gives you 1.5 points per £1 you spend, while the Premier World Elite Mastercard gives you 3 points per £1 for a £290 annual fee. There's a sign-up bonus too for new cardholders too: spend £2,000 in your first 90 days and the Premier gives you 20,000 points, whilst the World Elite gives you 40,000.

What is the HSBC 20% transfer bonus to Avios?

Between 00:01 BST on 1 September 2026 and 23:59 BST on 30 September 2026, HSBC Premier Credit Card and HSBC Premier World Elite Mastercard holders can transfer their reward points to British Airways Club Avios and receive a 20% bonus on the Avios awarded.

You need to redeem at least 100 reward points in a single transaction to qualify, and the bonus Avios will land in your account separately from the standard transfer, labelled "Bonus Avios" on your statement.

Your reward points are deducted immediately once you submit the redemption, and the standard Avios show up in your account within two days. The 20% bonus follows separately, within 14 days of the request.

The conversion rate from HSBC Premier Points to Avios is usually 2 HSBC reward points to 1 airline point, so normally if you were to transfer 10,000 reward points, you'll get 5.000 Avios. But with this offer, it would actually be 6,000 Avios.

How do you redeem Points for Avios during the offer?

Redemption has to go through HSBC's mobile app or online banking. There's no other way to claim the bonus.

Here's the process on the app:

1. Log on to the HSBC mobile app

2. Tap the menu icon and select "Rewards and benefits"

3. Under "Spend your points", tap "British Airways" and follow the instructions

4. Enter your British Airways Club membership number to submit the request

Online banking follows a similar path through the rewards section. Whichever route you use, once you've submitted the request, it's final. HSBC's terms are explicit that redemptions can't be cancelled, reversed, refunded, or exchanged for cash after submission, and they can't be combined with any other offer.

Is the 20% bonus worth transferring for?

One of the perks of a points currency such as these, or American Express Membership Rewards points is the flexibility, with multiple airlines to transfer to. HSBC reward points can be transferred to:

• Cathay Pacific Asia Miles

• The British Airways Club

• Emirates Skywards

• Etihad Guest

• Flying Blue (Air France KLM)

• Qantas Frequent Flyer

• Qatar Airways Privilege Club

• Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer

• IHG One Rewards

• Wyndham Rewards

A 20% uplift is a solid bonus by UK transfer-offer standards, and if you had a redemption in mind already, September is the month to act on it rather than wait.

What it doesn't do is change the underlying value of Avios themselves. If you don't have a redemption plan, piling up extra Avios for the sake of a bonus isn't necessarily the best use of your points, especially since Avios have no monetary value and can't be transferred back or refunded once converted.

It's worth coming up with a plan to redeem/checking availability on the route you're eyeing up before you commit, since rewards flights and cabin upgrades remain subject to availability regardless of how many Avios you're holding.

The bottom line

If you're a primary HSBC Premier cardholder with points to spare and a redemption already in mind, this is a straightforward way to stretch them a bit further in September.
