Hello, and welcome to a new little series that we are calling Thursday Travel Tips - Things You Didn’t Know.
This is the series where we are going to focus on a plethora of travel tips. From things you didn’t know you can earn Avios on, to helpful tips that will make packing a total breeze in the future. We will be doing a mini deep dive into various topics to make you all the best, most savvy travellers and points earners possible.
Today’s “Thursday Travel Tips” we are looking into something you potentially didn’t know that you could earn Avios on… Holiday Accommodation.

Yes, that is right. If you are smart about how you book your holiday accommodation you can end up earning thousands of extra Avios whilst you’re on holiday. As you know, here at Points Well Made, we are big believers in making your pounds work for you in earning those all important points, and when better to earn than when you are already on holiday! So salt up that margarita glass, let’s talk details.
Earn Avios on Accommodation: The Options
First up, Hotel bookings. There are two main ways to book hotel accommodation regarding earning Avios.
Avios Hotels Platform:
First up is the Avios Hotels platform. With over 300,000 hotels listed worldwide, this is a great starting point for any hotel based holiday. Not only can you spend your well earned Avios on this platform for your holiday, but if you choose to pay cash you can also earn Avios for your booking.

If you book before 6th June you can earn a whopping 15 Avios per £1 spent! Which is pretty amazing. The usual conversion is 10 Avios to £1 spent and even this is not to be sneered at.
Let’s say you want to book a week long November getaway to Dubai for you and your partner / bestie / mum. All you need to do is use the super search tool, and of course filter out anything you don’t want. You splash out on a lovely hotel room which costs £1,334 for the 7 nights, and bam. You have just pocketed 20,000 Avios.
There are hotel options for all budgets on this website too. The cheapest room for the above mentioned trip, costs just £342 whereas the most expensive is … £21,598! Bvlgari Resort, we are look at you!
The How to's are clearly shown on the Avios Website too:

Unfortunately, Avios Hotels does not list every hotel. So if there's a hotel you cannot find, then we would recommend using one of the below websites.
Other Hotel Partner’s
There are also various partner websites listed with differing conversion rates:
These are just a handful of the chains available via the Avios store, we recommend always going on and just searching your hotel of choice to see if it comes up either as a Partner or on the Avios Hotel platform.

Self-Catering Options:
If renting a villa for a week is more your kind of thing there are also various different websites that you can utilise.

Why is this such a good idea?
The why on this one is so simple, you could end up earning huge amounts of Avios via doing this. Team it up with a points earning credit card and you could have a return trip to Italy in the bag points wise. We booked a property last year in Majorca for a holiday with Sam's family netting us 7,374 Avios for booking a Vrbo property via the Avios portal.

If you haven’t done so already, please make sure you have created a British Airways Club account. I'd also recommend checking out our post on the Avios Store Here. Once you have signed up, armed with your dates and where you are going, all you have to do is head over to the Avios website, find the partner you want and click through to their website from the Avios one.
Without sounding like I am teaching you to suck eggs, I am not, I promise. Always click through from the Avios website, and enable cookies. It might feel like a small extra step, but it’s crucial. If you don’t, your booking won’t be tracked and you won’t receive your points. Trust us, forgetting this is a mistake you don’t want to make.
Final Thoughts
Going on holiday is fantastic. Whether you love an action packed city break, or would rather float in a pool with a gin and tonic in hand. But what is even better than those? Lying in bed at your hotel smugly thinking about the fact that your stay is basically earning you flights for your next holiday! It’s a feeling that will keep you warm at night.
Whilst it might be annoying to always be going back to the Avios website, it does become second nature. Not only because you want those points, but also because the feeling when you realise you forgot to go through via the store is rubbish!
Until next Thursday, happy travels - and even happier earning.
