Virgin Atlantic Reward Flight Taxes and Fees: Every Route and Cabin 2026

You'll know that Virgin Atlantic charges taxes and fees on every reward flight booked with Virgin Points, ranging from around £60 to over £700 depending on the route, cabin, and direction. As of early April 2026, these charges are now the same regardless of how many points you pay. Here's what's changed to reward flights, and the full list of taxes and fees for all of Virgin Atlantic's routes if you pay using Virgin Points.

How Virgin Atlantic reward fares used to work
When Virgin Atlantic changed their reward fare structure from fixed prices to dynamic pricing, they also changed the supply of reward seats from a limited amount, to every seat being available to be booked with Virgin Points. One of the 'perks' of dynamic pricing was a bargain bin of fares known as 'saver' fares. These saver fares were dirt cheap in terms of the points needed, often as low as 6,000 Virgin Points in economy from Heathrow to New York or the Maldives, and the taxes/fees you had to pay with cash were also rock bottom. I'm sure you know the catch, as the cost in points rose, so did the cost of the taxes/fees. Until now.
Virgin Atlantic now charges the same taxes on every reward flight
Unfortunately, Virgin has decided to equalise the amount of taxes/fees on ANY reward flight ticket, conveniently blaming jet fuel pricing stemming from events in the gulf. So if you're buying an Upper Class ticket for 29,000 Virgin Points, or 350,000, you will now pay the same taxes/fees. This is a terrible outcome for people who book the cheapest tickets as they heavily benefitted under the old system. Last year, Helena flew from Heathrow to New York in Upper Class on a saver ticket. She paid 35,000 Virgin Points and £497.52 in taxes/fees. Today, she would have paid £720 for that same flight, representing a nearly 50% increase.
Two things to know before you scroll
Below you will find a table showing every Virgin Atlantic route from Heathrow, Manchester, and Edinburgh, with the taxes/fees required for each route, in every cabin for reward flights paid using Virgin Points.
A few things to explain first. The first price shown is the price and currency that Virgin require you to pay the taxes/fees in. Where this isn't in GBP, I have listed that price next to it in GBP based on exchange rates as of today, 16 April 2026. When you come to book a flight you may notice that the values differ slightly from what's listed here, but that is due to small changes in the exchange rate.
The other thing to explain is why the prices vary so much. There are two factors to consider. The first is cabin: Upper Class always attracts higher carrier charges than economy, sometimes three times as much. The second is where you start the journey. The UK loads on Air Passenger Duty plus Virgin's own carrier charge, so any flight leaving Heathrow, Manchester or Edinburgh comes with a large tax component. Flights starting overseas usually don't, which is why a return from New York might cost £121 in tax while the outbound from London is £243. You can read here as to why flying from the UK is so expensive.
Any questions, comments, or rants, please leave a comment, I'm sure others are feeling your pain.
