If you’ve built up 50,000 Avios in your British Airways Club account you’re in the perfect position to turn those points into a serious return flight. 50,000 Avios is more than enough for a European return in business or a longer haul flight. With the right approach, you can unlock a gorgeous city break or a relaxing holiday by the pool, all using Avios instead of cash.
The key is knowing where to look, and for that, you’ll want to use the British Airways Reward Flight Finder or our favoured award-search tool SeatSpy. These two resources work hand in hand to help you spot routes that fall under 50,000 Avios for a return trip.
But, because we are also a wonderful source of knowledge, we've pulled together everywhere you can fly, return, with BA for 50,000 Avios. And yes, New York City is even on the list kids!
So, where can I fly with 50,000 Avios I hear you ask?

How Avios Pricing Works with British Airways
British Airways prices Avios flights on a distance basis. Shorter flights, such as hops across the Channel, naturally require fewer points, while flights to Southern Europe sit a little higher, and longer haul flights higher still. BA also has a peak and off-peak calendar, which means the same route can fluctuate depending on the date. The peak calendar is essentially follows the school holiday calendar. Crucially, it is only ever between two fixed amounts of Avios, no dynamic pricing here (yes, Virgin Atlantic, we’re looking at you!).
The Reward Flight Finder on the BA website shows the exact Avios needed for your chosen route and cabin class.
Finding Real Availability with SeatSpy
While the BA Reward Flight Finder tells you what a flight should cost, the challenge is finding dates when reward seats are actually available. That’s where SeatSpy comes into its own.
SeatSpy lets you see a year’s worth of reward seat availability in a single view. You can search by route, cabin class and date range, and the tool will instantly highlight when saver seats are open. Better still, you can set alerts so that when a seat on your chosen route becomes available, you’ll be notified right away.

This combination, using BA to see the price structure and SeatSpy to spot the seats, gives you the best chance of securing a return journey for 50,000 Avios or less.
Where 50,000 Avios Can Take You
In economy, this band largely covers medium-haul routes such as North Africa, the Middle East and some longer European sectors. Think Cairo, Istanbul, Marrakech or Tenerife – flights long enough for cash prices to climb, but still low enough in Avios terms to stay in the 30–50k bracket return.
In business class (“Club Europe”), many of BA’s short-haul European destinations fall neatly into this bracket, even on peak dates. City-break favourites like Amsterdam, Berlin, Madrid or Dubrovnik can be booked for about 40–45k Avios return in Club Europe, plus relatively low surcharges.
This list below covers amounts of between 30,000-50,000 Avios. If you have fewer Avios, you can click here for our guide on destinations for around 25,000 Avios.

Surcharges vary widely. Ultra-short hops from London may attract as little as 50p in fees, while longer sectors to North Africa or the Middle East typically have £40–£100+ in taxes each way. Even with the surcharges, these routes can be far cheaper than cash tickets, particularly if you’re booking close to departure or during school holidays.

Making the Most of Your 50,000 Avios
The real value lies not just in knowing the destinations, but also in being flexible. By using SeatSpy, you can see when reward seats open up and adjust your plans accordingly. This flexibility can mean the difference between finding a return to New York for 25,000 Avios or missing out entirely.
It’s also worth remembering that BA offers multiple Avios & Cash combinations. Sometimes you can use fewer Avios and pay a higher cash amount, or vice versa. Always choose what feels right for you!
Why This Band Is Valuable
Choice of cabin: You’re not limited to economy. Short-haul business class redemptions fit neatly in this range.
Availability: Many of these flights operate multiple times per day from London, improving your chances of finding award seats.
Cash savings: Medium-haul leisure routes can be very expensive in cash on peak dates. Using 30–50k Avios can undercut these fares significantly.
Tips for Booking
Mix and match: You can book one way in Club Europe and one way in Euro Traveller (economy) to suit your schedule or budget.
Use the peak/off-peak calendar: Off-peak dates can shave thousands of Avios off the cost.
Check all airports: London City often has Club Europe availability when Heathrow doesn’t; Gatwick may also offer leisure routes not available from Heathrow.
Where Can I Fly With 50000 Avios? Bottom Line
If you have a moderate Avios balance, the 30,000–50,000 Avios return band is a sweet spot that opens up dozens of destinations and the ability to travel in either economy or Club Europe. From sunshine breaks in the Med to city-hops across Europe and even some medium-haul adventures in North Africa or the Middle East, this is one of the most versatile ways to redeem your Avios.
