Alaska Airlines has announced they're launching a daily, year-round service between Seattle and London Heathrow from May 2026, which represents a significant development for British travellers seeking alternatives to the Pacific Northwest. But the exact schedule, launch date, nor the terminal Alaska Airlines will use at Heathrow have been announced, so expect more to come in the future!

Joining a Competitive Market
The Seattle-London market is already quite competitive, currently served by British Airways, Delta, and Virgin Atlantic. Alaska's entry provides a fourth option on this route, operated by their Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner featuring 34 Business Class suites and 266 Economy seats.
For British travellers, this helps to further open up Alaska's extensive domestic network, including destinations like Anchorage, Portland, and smaller cities across Alaska and the Pacific Northwest that are otherwise difficult to reach from the UK with a single connection.
For Alaska's loyal customers in the Pacific Northwest, the expansion to Heathrow will allow those travellers to utilise British Airways network to Europe and beyond.

oneworld Benefits for Avios Collectors
As a oneworld alliance member, Alaska's expansion into the London market is particularly exciting for British Airways Club members and Avios collectors. The partnership means seamless connections on a single ticket, and the ability to earn and redeem Avios on Alaskan. For a long time, Alaskan has a renowned miles and points programme, offering collectors of the Mileage Plan a huge range of partners to redeem their points on. It would be great if Avios collectors would get some form of access to this scheme. Or maybe Alaska would like to join Avios... One can hope!
A New Look For International Expansion
Alaska is also introducing an impressive new exterior design for their international fleet, drawing inspiration from the Aurora Borealis. The new livery features deep midnight blues and lush emerald greens with flowing aura lines - a notable departure from their traditional aesthetic.

The design includes a horizontal stripe along the fuselage that references their classic 70s and 80s liveries, creating a bridge between their heritage and global ambitions. All Dreamliners will feature this new design by Spring 2026.
This London service represents the fourth of at least 12 intercontinental destinations Alaska plans to serve from Seattle by 2030. The airline is establishing a 787-9 hub in Seattle with up to 17 Dreamliners to serve their new global network.
