Register Your Card for In-Store Avios Before 4pm Today, or Wait Until April

British Airways has started emailing members of The British Airways Club today to let them know the Avios Shop, the programme that earns you Avios when shopping, is moving to a new provider. So far so boring. There's more to it though.

New card registrations for in-store purchases are being paused between today and 15th April 2026. If you haven't registered your card yet, you've got until 4pm GMT today (11th March) to do it.

(If you don't know what we mean when we say you can earn Avios on in-store purchases, then we've got a full step-by-step guide here)

After that, you're locked out until mid-April. But not every card is being transferred across either. So if you've been putting it off, and have some extra spending coming up, or have one of the affected cards registered, then this post is for you.

Here's what matters depending on your situation.

Already registered a Visa or Amex: do nothing

Your card moves across automatically and you'll keep earning Avios throughout the transition.

Already registered a Mastercard: you'll need to re-register

You'll need to re-enter your details after 15th April once the new system is live. BA says they'll send a reminder closer to the time. Why Mastercard's need to be re-registered we do not know...

Letter from Avios and British Airways about card registration changes from 11th March to 15th April 2026. Mastercard updates needed.

Not registered yet? You've got hours, not days

If you want to earn Avios in-store and haven't registered a card yet, you need to do it before 4pm today. After that, registrations close until mid-April.

You register your debit or credit card through the Avios Shop using your British Airways Club account as your login. It's fully secure, uses encrypted tokenisation, and once set up, you earn Avios automatically at participating retailers. No codes, no clicking through portals, you simply tap your card and the Avios land in your account.

As mentioned above, we've got a full step-by-step guide here if you want the complete walkthrough.
