So, you've booked a flight and you’re dreaming of your destination — maybe sandy beaches, buzzing cities, or mountain views from a plane window. But wait! There's a nagging questions in your head! Which airlines can I earn Avios on?

Did you know you could be earning free flights, upgrades, and more just by doing what you're already doing? As mentioned in our previous post, Which Airlines Can I earn British Airways Tier Points On, there are currently 37 airlines that you can earn Avios on. Today, we are going to take you through each airline you can earn Avios on.

Avios, we have so much to thank you for! The points that make your travel really rewarding. If you're new to this, don’t worry, you have come to the right place! We’ve broken it all down for you.

First Things First: What are Avios?

If you haven’t already read our What Exactly Are Avios post, we’ll forgive you but definitely go have a read! Think of Avios as a kind of travel currency. You earn them when you fly with British Airways, their oneworld alliance partners, and other partner airlines. Once you’ve got enough, you can spend them on reward flights, cabin upgrades, hotel stays, and more.

When Can You Earn Avios?

Good news — almost every time you fly, you can collect Avios with the below Airlines. There are a few exceptions, such as using Avios to pay for the fare, if you are using a 2-For-1 voucher or a Cabin Upgrade voucher. But in most cases, your flying miles = future joy!

How Many Avios Will I Get?

As we know, British Airways is never simple! There are four variables by which your Avios calculation will be decided. It depends on:

  • The airline you fly with.

  • The cabin class (economy, business, etc.)

  • Your British Airways Club tier (Blue, Bronze, Silver, or Gold)

  • The price of your ticket (or distance flown with some airlines)

For British Airways flights:

You earn Avios based on how much you spend (not how far you fly). Here's what you get per £1 spent:

Heads up: Taxes and fees (like airport charges) don’t earn Avios. Only your fare and extras (like paid seats or extra baggage) count. Just like with the Tier Points… feel free to check that post out.

If you're paying in another currency, your total is converted to GBP based on exchange rates, then the same rules apply.

Just a note, you will not earn Avios on Reward bookings.

What About Other Airlines?

British Airways partners with numerous other airlines. But that isn’t all of them! Under the oneworld alliance there are seven separate loyalty schemes through which you can earn Avios.

British Airways Club

Iberia Plus

Aer Lingus AerClub

Vueling Club

Qatar Airways Privilege Club

Finnair Plus

Loganair Loyalty

All seven of them have different Partner Airlines. So, weirdly you can earn Avios on a United flight, despite it being a member of the competing Star Alliance, thanks to it being a Partner Airline with Aer Lingus.

To get the necessary Avios, you will need to have an account with the relevant loyalty programme listed next to each airline, and have them all linked back to your British Airways Club account to pool them all together. Does that make sense?

Did you know you can also occasionally do status matches with airlines? This is something we’ll deal with in a later post though, so stay tuned.

Hopefully this all made sense, but if you have any questions, feel free to drop them into the comments below and we will get back to you on this!
