If you're like us, your rent or mortgage is probably the biggest payment you make each month, (boooooooo!) and I wouldn't be surprised if at the moment you were earning zero points on this (also boooooo!) Yonder, however, have just entered the chat with a new feature on their cards that may help you with this.
Rent & Mortgage Rewards is now live on every Yonder membership, free and Premium, debit and credit, allowing you to earn points on your rent or mortgage. There are also boosted welcome rates running until 31 December 2026, so this is the window to make the most of it.

Yonder has updated its Premium card too, with a higher fee, a bigger welcome bonus, and more perks. Below, I cover how it all works, what you can earn, how to set it up and what you can spend the points on.
To refresh your memory on Yonder, you can find our previous article we did about them here.

Why Rent & Mortgage Rewards is a big deal for Yonder cardholders
Most card updates are small, and often done to undercut the competition in the most menial way possible. But it really is refreshing to see one that adds a whole new way to earn.
Think about what a normal month looks like. Your rent or mortgage is the largest single amount that leaves your account, and it goes out on autopilot via direct debit or standing order. Pay via Yonder, and that same payment now earns points, with very little extra effort and no handling or admin fee. Free members can pick up 1,000 points a month on the welcome rate, and Premium members can earn up to 10,000 points a month.
There's also nothing for your landlord, letting agent or lender to do. They receive the payment exactly as they always have.
How does Yonder Rent & Mortgage Rewards work?
You tell Yonder how much you pay, when you pay it and who you pay. Yonder collects the money from your bank account and sends it to your landlord, letting agent or lender on the date you've chosen. Points are added automatically each month.
It's available on both the credit and debit cards, and on free and Premium memberships.
How many points can you earn on rent and mortgage payments?
What you earn depends on your membership and on whether you're within the welcome rate window.
Free membership | Premium membership | |
Welcome rate (until 31 Dec 2026) | 1,000 points a month, flat | 5 points per £1, up to 10,000 points a month |
Standard rate (from 1 Jan 2027) | 200 points a month, flat | 1 point per £1, up to 2,000 points a month |
Free members earn the same whether their rent is £600 or £2,000. Premium earnings scale with what you pay, up to the cap. On a £1,500 monthly rent, a Premium member would earn 7,500 points a month on the welcome rate, then 1,500 a month on the standard rate. The 10,000 point cap is reached at £2,000 a month, so anything above that doesn't earn extra.
If you pay weekly: Premium members earn on every weekly payment, at 1 point per £1 (or 5 on the welcome rate), until they reach the monthly maximum. Free members earn their flat points on the first payment of each month.

Do you need to cancel your old standing order or direct debit?
Yes. Once you use your Yonder card to pay your rent or mortgage, cancel the standing order or Direct Debit you've been using, or you'll pay twice, and you definitely don't want to be doing that. Cancel it with your bank or provider, as Yonder can't do this for you.
If your next payment is due within five days of setting up, Yonder won't be ready in time and your first Yonder payment will be the following month. In that case:
Pay this month's rent or mortgage the way you normally do.
Cancel the old arrangement after that payment has gone out, not before.
If your first Yonder payment isn't affected by the five-day rule, cancel the old arrangement once setup is finished and before your next payment is due.
Where does the money come from, and where is it held?
Credit card customers: The money comes from your own bank account, not from your Yonder credit limit. You nominate the account at setup, and Yonder collects the payment automatically a few days before it's due. While it waits, the money is kept aside for that payment only. You can't spend it on your card, and it doesn't count towards your credit card balance.
Debit card customers: The money needs to be in your Yonder balance before the payment date. You can add it manually or switch on auto top-up.
Your Yonder account is held with banking partner Griffin Bank, as Yonder isn't a bank itself. The money is yours the whole time, and you can withdraw it back to your own bank account whenever you like using the Withdraw button on your rent and mortgage screen.
When is the money taken from your bank and what if there's extra money in there?
Three days before your payment date, or five working days before if the collection is by Direct Debit. The gap is deliberate, so there's time to fix a failed collection before your rent is due.
Yonder only ever sends the amount you told it to. Anything extra stays put until you withdraw it. Credit card customers, and anyone with auto top-up on, will still have the full amount collected next time, so the extra sits there rather than reducing the next collection.
Can you pay your mortgage with Yonder, and what happens when your mortgage payment changes?
Yes, provided your lender accepts a standing order. Yonder sends payments as standing orders, which are a fixed amount on a fixed date, so it works well for fixed-rate mortgages.
There are limits to be aware of:
Variable and tracker rates: Your lender will almost certainly need a Direct Debit so the amount can change when rates move. Yonder can't do Direct Debits yet, so it won't work for these mortgages at the moment. Yonder says it is working on adding Direct Debit support.
Lenders who only take Direct Debit: Some do this whatever your rate, so check before you set anything up.
Same-bank mortgages: If your mortgage is with the same bank as your current account, such as Nationwide, that's fine. They're separate accounts, so Yonder collects from your current account and sends the payment to the mortgage account as it would to any other lender.
Before setting up, ask your lender to confirm they accept a standing order, and get the bank details, reference and payee name they want you to use.
If your mortgage payment changes Yonder won't know, so you'll need to update it yourself. Because the payment is a fixed amount, it stays the same when your fixed rate ends or your lender reviews your payment. If it's less than you owe, you'll fall behind with your lender. Go to your rent and mortgage screen, tap 'Manage', then 'Edit'. It's worth noting when your fixed rate ends so you remember to check.

What if I split my rent or mortgage with someone?
If you split rent or a mortgage with a partner, housemate or family member, set it up for the amount you actually pay. Enter the amount that leaves your account and the date it goes out, and Yonder sends exactly that. You earn on what you send, so if you pay half, you earn on half. If your share changes, go to 'Manage', then 'Edit'.
What if your payment fails, bounces back or you run short?
Not enough money: Yonder warns you by notification and email if it looks like there won't be enough to cover your payment, with time to top up. If the collection from your bank fails, you'll be told straight away and asked to add the money manually using 'Add money' on your rent and mortgage screen.
As long as you do that before your payment date, your rent or mortgage still goes out on time. Simply tap the failed payment on your rent and mortgage screen. If it failed for lack of funds, you can add money and retry from there.
Money that comes back: Occasionally a landlord, agent or lender returns a payment. The money goes back to your rent and mortgage balance, and it's still yours to withdraw. The most common cause is the payment reference, which lenders in particular use to match payments to accounts. If it happens:
Ask your lender, landlord or agent what reference they need and whether they accept a standing order.
Update your setup with the right reference via 'Manage', then 'Edit'.
The payment is still owed for that period, so pay it another way in the meantime.
How to start earning points on your rent or mortgage
The best part is how little effort it takes. You tell Yonder what you pay, when you pay it and who you pay, and the app does the rest. No spreadsheets, no phone calls, no forms for your landlord.
Open the Yonder app and go to Account or Membership.
Tap the rent and mortgage card and choose Get started.
Choose whether you're paying rent or a mortgage.
Enter how much you pay, how often, and the date of your next payment.
Pick which of your own bank accounts the money should come from (credit customers only).
Add your landlord's, agent's or lender's bank details.
Check the summary and tap Confirm and set up.
You'll see two dates on screen before you confirm: when Yonder collects the money from your bank, and when it sends it on. After that, your points land automatically every month.
How do you collect your points, and why didn't I earn any?
Once a payment has gone out, tap it in your transaction list on Home or on your rent and mortgage screen, then slide to collect. If you forget, points collect themselves automatically after seven days.
If a payment didn't earn points, there are two likely reasons:
You're on Free and have already earned this month. Free members get a flat monthly amount however many payments they make.
You've hit the monthly maximum. That's 2,000 points on the standard rate or 10,000 on the welcome rate for Premium members.
A Premium member paying weekly should earn on every payment until the cap. If that isn't happening, get in touch with Yonder.
What can you spend Yonder points on?
Yonder points don't work like airline miles. They're redeemed through Yonder's own platform, so they behave more like a flexible travel credit than a currency tied to one airline. That suits rent and mortgage earners well, as you can use the points on whatever trip you're planning.
Flights: Behind the scenes, your points are converted into a monetary value credited against the cash fare you have already paid. It is not the same as redeeming Avios for a business class seat at a fixed points price, and it will not deliver the occasional bursts of outsized value that make airline loyalty programmes compelling to enthusiasts. What it does deliver is flexibility, you book the flight you want and take the edge off the cost. You can book flight can be on easyJet, Ryanair, Jet2, Emirates or Singapore Airlines, to name but a few of the airlines, with up to £200 off per booking. In my review of the card, the values were, and still are:
31,250 points = £50 off
62,500 points = £100 off
125,000 points = £200 off
You need to buy the flight on your Yonder card and book directly with the airline. Bookings through a travel agent or third party don't qualify, though finding the flight on an aggregator and then buying direct is fine.
Cathay Pacific Asia Miles: This is Yonder's only airline transfer partner, at 5 Yonder points to 1 Asia Mile. Asia Miles is Cathay Pacific’s loyalty currency and rewards programme, with Cathay being a great option for flights to Asia as well as Australia. Asia Miles can also be used to book reward flights on British Airways, but do check availability first on the Cathay Pacific website.
Hotels. Book through the Yonder app, which covers over 1.2 million properties worldwide, to earn and redeem. Bookings made directly with the hotel don't count. The values are:
25,000 points = £75 off
50,000 points = £150 off
100,000 points = £300 off
Airport lounges. Points can be used for lounge visits through No1 Lounges and Lounge Pass. Lounge Pass visits must be booked through the Yonder app at least 24 hours ahead, and No1 Lounges at least five hours ahead. Walk-ins don't qualify.
Restaurants. At partner restaurants, you pay with your Yonder card as normal and the app asks whether you'd like to use points to offset the bill.
For a full breakdown of how redemptions work in practice, including the app, FX fees and travel insurance, read my Yonder Premium Credit Card review. The FX fees are especially something to take note of they pass the Mastercard exchange rate directly to cardholders with no markup, so no extra FX fees. I saved about £50 in South Africa and Botswana earlier this year thanks to this feature.
Yonder Premium changes: new fee and bigger welcome bonus
Alongside Rent & Mortgage Rewards, Yonder has updated its Premium offering:
Premium fee: now £17.99 a month, or £190 if paid annually. Yonder points out this is less than Amex Gold.
Welcome bonus: the Premium credit card now comes with 20,000 points as standard, and the Premium debit card with 10,000 when you spend £1k in your first 30 days.
Yonder Credits have launched on Premium credit and debit - £140 a year
£50 every six months to spend on either Hertz car hire or a hotel booking at one of millions of Yonder Hotels
£20 every six months to spend at No.1 Lounges in airports across the UK
These credits appear automatically on your card, and are spent automatically when you book something a credit covers. Credits are applied every six months and are subject to a minimum spend. T&Cs apply.
Who is Yonder Rent & Mortgage Rewards best for?
Rent & Mortgage Rewards is most useful for people who pay rent or a fixed-rate mortgage by standing order and want something back on their biggest monthly cost.
If you’re on the free membership, it’s a simple, fee-free way to pick up points on a payment that has never earned any before. The welcome rate of 1,000 points a month is a solid start, and the 200 points a month from 1 January 2027 still adds up over a year. There’s nothing to weigh up here, as you’re not paying anything extra for the privilege.
If you’re a Premium member, you can earn far more, with up to 10,000 points a month on the welcome rate. It’s worth weighing that against the monthly fee, and looking at how the rest of the card fits your year, rather than treating rent earning as the whole story.
Yonder’s flights proposition is an interesting one. On paper, it isn’t as strong as some other rewards cards. What it does win on is flexibility, both in that your points can be used on any airline, as well as on hotels, lounges and restaurants. But it also caters to the traditional points person thanks to being able to transfer Yonder points to Cathay Pacific Asia Miles.
It works best, in my eyes, for people who book hotels, hire cars and travel a lot and who need a no-fees-abroad rewards card. As I mentioned earlier, no foreign exchange fees is a standout benefit for me, and it’s the part of the card I use most on holiday.
That’s also why Rent & Mortgage Rewards works best as a bonus rather than the main reason to hold the card. You’re earning points at home on your biggest bill, then spending the card abroad without the usual fees. If you already travel, or you’re planning to, the two sit well together.
A few things are worth checking before you start:
Your lender or landlord: confirm they accept a standing order, and get the correct reference.
Your mortgage type: it works best with a fixed rate, as variable and tracker mortgages usually need a Direct Debit, which Yonder doesn’t support yet.
Your payment dates: if your next payment is due within five days of setting up, your first Yonder payment will be the following month.
The caps: Premium members are capped at 10,000 points a month on the welcome rate and 2,000 a month on the standard rate.
The deadline: the boosted welcome rates end on 31 December 2026.
