Here's Two Avios Opportunities, One You Should Do, and One You Shouldn't

This week presents two opportunities for British Airways Club and Qatar Airways Privilege Club members, one to use Avios, and the other to gain Avios. But they couldn't be more different in terms of value. One is genuinely worth your attention, while the other is a masterclass in disappointment.

The One You Should Do: Qatar Airways' Hilton Honors Partnership Bonus
Qatar Airways is offering Privilege Club members a straightforward and genuinely valuable bonus Avios promotion when flying with the airline. Book through the Qatar Airways website or the Qatar Airways mobile app using promo code QRPCHILTON between now and 31st October 2025, and you'll earn substantial bonus Avios on top of your usual earnings.

The offer is simple: 3,000 bonus Avios for Economy bookings and 6,000 bonus Avios for Business or First Class travel. Travel is valid until 31st March 2026, giving you plenty of time to plan a trip.
What makes this worthwhile? You're earning additional Avios on flights you'd potentially book anyway, without having to spend any of your existing balance. This is pure upside. Whether you're planning a winter sun escape or a spring business trip, those bonus Avios stack on top of the regular mileage you'd earn from the flight itself.
The rules are straightforward: ensure your Privilege Club number is in your booking (or add it later, even at check-in), and the bonus will credit after your flight. If you're not already a member, joining is free and takes minutes. The bonus is based on your first flight segment's cabin, so if your first leg is in Economy, and the second in Business, you will get just 3,000 Avios. This deal applies only to Qatar Airways marketed and operated flights.

The One You Shouldn't: British Airways Holidays' "Discount"
On the surface, British Airways Holidays' weekend promotion sounds appealing: spend 25% fewer Avios on holiday packages to the Caribbean and Europe. But when you examine the actual value proposition, this offer falls well short of what you could achieve by using your Avios for flights alone.

Looking at the redemption rates in the above image (a dummy booking for a holiday to Agadir), the problem becomes clear. To save £488 on a booking, you'd need to part with 91,500 Avios. That values each Avios at approximately 0.53 pence.
Compare this to using Avios for actual flight redemptions, where you can regularly achieve 1-2 pence per Avios on long-haul Business Class, or even 1+ pence per Avios on well-chosen short-haul routes. The holiday packages simply don't offer competitive value, even with a discount applied. Adding to that, we've just written a list of all the destinations you can fly to for 50,000 Avios (click here). Even with just a cursory glance you'll be able to see where the value truly lies.
The offer covers destinations including Barbados, Antigua, the Maldives, and various European sun spots, with bookings required by midnight on 13th October for travel through 31th March 2026. While the destinations are attractive and the three-night minimum might suit a quick getaway, the fundamental economics don't work in your favour, in our opinion. The exception would be if you have a very small amount of Avios to use that you don't see yourself using to pay for a flight outright.
The Verdict
The Qatar Airways promotion represents good, honest value: earn more Avios for flying, with no downside. The British Airways Holidays offer, despite the "25% discount" headline, still delivers poor value per Avios compared to standard flight redemptions.
If you're planning to fly Qatar Airways in the coming months, absolutely take advantage of the bonus. If you're considering a British Airways holiday package, I would be looking to pay exclusively with cash, and bank the Avios that you're going to get from your booking.
In the world of loyalty programmes, not all opportunities are created equal. This week perfectly illustrates why it pays to do the sums before parting with your hard-earned Avios.
