It's time for your weekly Points Well Made round up!

Yesterday's piece was perhaps the highlight, where we ranked the best Avios earning cards in the UK. You might be able to guess our number one pick, but I wonder if you'll guess the rest...

Over the rest of the week, we have pulled together a beginner's guide as to "What Are Avios?", there's 50% off all Loganair Avios seats, Lufthansa are offering a status match for British Airways Club members, and we've done a round-up of some of the best points deals for hotels.

We are running a Q+A on our Instagram stories today, so any questions, suggestions, and anything in between you may have, please do head over there!

As per usual, if you want to get in touch to change your subscription to a weekly only email, or from weekly to daily, then please do email me sam@pointswellmade.co.uk.

Over February and March, we’re taking a proper deep dive into Avios.

This will be a great article to send to anyone you know who might be Avios-curious!

Avios is one of the most talked-about rewards currencies in the UK, yet it’s also one of the most misunderstood. It’s often associated with frequent flyers and travelling in premium cabins, but in reality Avios can be just as useful for occasional travellers and everyday spending. The challenge isn’t Avios itself, it’s understanding how to use it well.

What Are Avios? A Guide to the Reward Currency

Over the next couple of months, we’ll be breaking Avios down step by step. We’ll explain how it works, where the best earning opportunities really are, and how to turn points into genuine value rather than confusing “points maths”.

We have also produced a full Avios Guide which we thoroughly recommend downloading. This is completely free, there is no catch, there is no payment. We don't believe in hiding this information behind a paywall!

This article is the starting point. Before we get into strategies, shortcuts and sweet spots, it’s worth understanding exactly what Avios are, why so many UK travellers collect it, and whether it makes sense for you.

Finnair is running a promotion offering up to a 50% bonus on purchased Avios between 2nd and 5th February 2026. This is better than the last offer we saw from Finnair which only offered up to a 40% bonus.

Are you following us social media? If not, why not! Go drop us a follow on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok so that you never miss any of your favourite content!

The points can be transferred instantly and for free to your British Airways Club account via the Avios website once they appear in your Finnair Plus account.

But how does this offer compare to the current promotion on boosting your Avios, that we covered last week?

The Finnair Avios Bonus

The bonus tiers are:

  • 0% bonus when buying 1,000 – 4,000 Avios

  • 30% bonus for 5,000 – 19,000 Avios

  • 35% bonus for 20,000 – 49,000 Avios

  • 40% bonus for 50,000 – 79,000 Avios

  • 50% bonus for 80,000+ Avios

To put this into perspective: buying 80,000 Avios (the minimum to unlock the 50% bonus) costs €1,760.00, which gets you 120,000 Avios total. At the current exchange rate of €1 = £0.86, that works out to £1,513.60 for 120,000 Avios, or approximately 1.26p per Avios.

For one week, Loganair are offering reward flights for just 3,250 Avios one way, that's half the usual amount of Avios. No catch, no complicated rules, just a straight 50% discount on flights using your points.

Whether you're planning a trip to the Highlands, visiting one of Scotland's islands, seeing family, or you need to stock up on Irn Bru, Tunnock's and whiskey, this is one of the best deals to squeeze more value out of your Avios.

Hot off the back of Air France KLM trying to poach British Airways Club members with a status match (click here for more information), Lufthansa are now vying for you all by running their own status match for British Airways Club members, offering the chance to match your BA status for their Miles & More programme. It costs €99 and lasts until February 2027. Let's work out if that's any good.

Lufthansa A320

Here is a quick summary of some of best points related hotel offers around. Some of you (including myself) may already have stays booked at one of these brands, meaning that if you don't register for the offer, you're leaving free points on the table!

Price is always a factor when I book hotels, but if there happens to be points available at a hotel I'm staying at, I make sure to bank them. In the past we've saved up Hilton Honors points for a decent redemption, but if we're staying at a hotel chain which we don't frequent very often, then collecting even the small amount of points on offer can be handy for bringing the total cost down of our next stay.

American Express and Lufthansa have updated the lounge access rules for Platinum Card holders. You can now access Lufthansa-branded lounges when flying any Lufthansa Group airline, not just Lufthansa, SWISS, and Austrian. You do this by simply showing your American Express Platinum card at the lounge desk.

This is an often forgotten little perk. So it's good to see that this benefit is finally being brought in line with what everyone expected anyway.

If you want to collect as much Avios as possible, then a credit card is the must-have tool. Whether you're chasing that business class seat or just want to fly to Europe for next to nothing, having the right card for you can make a big difference to how quickly your Avios balance grows.

We've ranked the five best Avios-earning credit cards available in the UK right now, based on earning rates, standard welcome bonuses, annual perks, and overall value. Some are free, some cost a fair bit, and each has its place depending on your spending habits and travel goals.

This is definitely the piece of the week, so you're not going to want to miss it. Click here to read which is the best Avios card.
