Up to 10,000 bonus Avios on the BA Amex for adding a free supplementary card

If this sounds familiar, that is because we covered the same offer on the Amex Gold and Platinum a few weeks ago. Amex has now dished the bonus out to the British Airways American Express cards too, meaning until 30 June 2026, you can earn up to 10,000 bonus Avios just for adding your first supplementary card.

British Airways American Express

What is a supplementary card?

A supplementary card is an extra card issued on your existing Amex account for someone else to use, usually a partner or family member. They get their own card with their name on it, but all spending appears on your statement and counts towards your Avios balance. You stay fully responsible for the charges. It is essentially a way of giving someone trusted access to the account whilst keeping everything under one roof, one statement, one credit limit.

The first supplementary card on your account is free.

What is the offer?

Until 30 June 2026, if you have never added a supplementary card to your BA Amex, you earn a boosted bonus just for doing so:

  • British Airways American Express Premium Plus cardmembers earn 10,000 bonus Avios for adding their first supplementary card.

  • British Airways American Express Credit Card holders (the free card) earn 5,000 bonus Avios.

There is no minimum spend on the supplementary card to qualify. You add it, the Avios show up. That is it.

What this means for your Companion Voucher

The Companion Voucher is the actual reason most people hold a BA Amex. To earn one, you need to spend £15,000 on the card in a membership year, and that threshold applies to both the Premium Plus and the free Credit Card.

Every penny your supplementary cardholder spends counts towards that £15,000. Add a partner who spends another few hundred aa month on their supplementary card, and that could help you clear the amount needed. For couples, that is a real wine, and then you add the 10,000 bonus on top, *chefs kiss*.

As a quick reminder, the Companion Voucher on the Premium Plus is valid for 24 months and works in any cabin, including Club World and First. On the free Credit Card it is valid for 12 months in economy only. You can read our Companion Voucher guide here.

Do NOT add it during application

If you are signing up for a brand new BA Amex, do not add the supplementary card during the initial application. Wait until your primary card arrives, then add the supplementary card separately through the American Express supplementary card page.

Adding it during the application disqualifies you from the bonus.

Is it worth it?

Obviously. There is no fee, no spending requirement, and the supplementary cardholder does not even need to touch the card for you to get the bonus.

If you already hold a BA Amex and have never added a supplementary card, there is no real argument against doing this before 30 June. And if a partner or family member is happy to actually spend on it, you have shortened the path to your next Companion Voucher at the same time.
